Guitar & Composition Lessons
I teach guitar and composition/music theory lessons to students anywhere in the world via video chat.
I specialize in helping musicians who feel like they’re “stuck” - that they’re not getting any better at their instrument or have writer’s block, and don’t know how to improve.
My lessons are tailored to each student to help them develop a system for improving as guitarists and/or as composers, while enjoying the process. Depending on your musical goals, the amount of skills required can be overwhelming. As someone who does many different musical things (video game music & sound design, classical music, metal) and is a trained musician (Master of Music in Composition '16), I love being able to help students sort out what they need to learn to achieve their goals. I have over a decade of teaching experience.
We can work together on any combination of instrumental technique, songwriting/composition, music arranging, working in notation software or in a DAW, transcribing/learning by ear, improvisation, and more.

GUITAR
I teach all levels of rock, metal, and folk guitar, and beginner to intermediate classical guitar. I design a curriculum for each student based on their goals and current level. Together, we can make your guitar playing more musical and enjoyable.
I have been playing guitar for over 25 years, and I continue to hone my skills in my work with Falls of Rauros and Forêt Endormie, as well as a freelance classical & electric guitarist, performing with Classical Uprising, Vigorous Tenderness, and more.
COMPOSITION & MUSIC THEORY
I am an active composer with a Master of Music in Composition degree. My recent work includes:
Mot disparu de la carte, a new song cycle built from Acadian poetry for my chamber group Forêt Endormie, for which I received a Sonic Visions grant.
Additional music to supplement Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck's score for SLEEP AWAKE, a psychedelic horror game from EYES OUT. I was also Lead Audio Designer on this project.
A New Orleans-style jazz score for Bootleg Steamer, "a rogue-like game [in which] you embark on your journey as a captain during the tumultuous American Prohibition."
I am happy to help new composers get started, or to give feedback to experienced composers.
What my students say...
“Jordan's an excellent teacher that listens to what you want to learn as well as brings his own experience and expertise to help you get there. It's been nothing but awesome learning with Jordan and seeing my skills grow week to week.” - Kevin, CO
"From my first lesson with Jordan, he was able to identify and help me address knowledge gaps that were holding my playing back. I made more progress with Jordan in the first month than I had in years practicing on my own. An excellent teacher that will mentor you to reach your creative goals." - Chris, WA
"One on one lessons with Jordan have been a great investment. I have learned more in the past handful of months than the preceding couple or years of self teaching. Not only is my confidence with the guitar growing faster than anticipated, I feel I'm starting to wrap my head around concepts of music theory that previously seemed so esoteric." - Nick, V
"I've been picking up my guitar for years without making much progress. Jordan let me direct our lessons toward more of the "why" behind songs and techniques, so that I'm getting a strong foundational understanding. I'm finding enjoyment in learning and playing guitar that is really motivating." - Sam, MN
